Resolutions are so last month

You may say I'm a month behind, but I like to say I'm thoughtful.  Dedicated.  I didn't want to rush into any New Year's resolutions, not before I felt ready.  I wanted to really ponder my aspirations for this year, and not just spit something out.

Or, you could say I'm a procrastinator.  That works too.

Even though it's not the typical time to share resolutions, I wanted to share them anyway.  I always love hearing about others' resolutions; they're welcome any time of the year!

#1:  Stay in touch

Specifically, my goal is to Skype more often, but writing letters is another why I'd like to stay connected.  I often forget I have Skype, and it's just as easy as phone call.  I feel like seeing the person you're talking to makes it more personable, though sometimes it makes it more awkward.  So far, Jordan and I chatted with his brother, who moved to Iowa City last month.  I only need to chat with two more people to beat the amount I Skype-d last year!

#2:  Live in a grown-up home

This one is going to take longer than a year, because of all the stuff we need to do, and how much we're going to drag our feet in doing it.  For goodness sake, it took us (and by us I mean Jordan) a year to remodel our bathroom!  But this year's focus is less remodeling - perhaps the laundry room in the basement, or the attic space - and more redecorating.  I've already crossed "organizing the hutch" off the list.  We have an open, built-in cabinet in our dining room (which I suppose isn't technically a hutch), which we use to store glassware and fancy somesuch things.  On the rest of the list... we've saved up for a proper dining room table and chairs and I'd like to get those before spring.  We'd also like to rearrange the living room, which would involve buying another chair and two small bookcases.  The guest room needs some major work, since there's only a pull-out couch in there now, and we need to figure out how to make it a functional room (and possible future nursery).  Finally, decorating.  I need to get my rear into gear and get more pictures up on these walls!

#3.  Do yoga

Last spring, my friend invited me to her yoga class.  I rolled my eyes, figuring I'd try it once and tell her it really wasn't my thing, but the one class proved me wrong.  I get it.  I get why people fall in love with yoga.  I mean, I don't really get the spiritual side of yoga, but as an exercise, it's awesome.  You feel refreshed and limber, but still feel like you worked out.  I'm not the type of person who does well with typical gym exercises, so going to yoga class was lovely.  However, as the school year started up again in the fall, I fell out of the habit.  I have at least one yoga channel on our Roku box, so I want to start up at home again, once or twice a week.  I know once I start, I will feel more flexible and healthy.

What are your resolutions?
And, have you been achieving them for a month?

  1. I just might want your dining room table... :-) We need a bigger one, and that one has a leaf, right?

  3. Live in a grown-up home - made me smile! I feel like we are just now getting there. When we moved back from Scotland 2 years ago and into our house, I was shocked by how little furniture we had. It has taken a couple years, but we are finally filling the place up.

As for new years resolutions, the hubby and I are still trying to set some goals for the year. Hopefully soon, given that it is February and all.
